Position Overview:
The Instrument Sterilization Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety in surgical environments. This position is essential for ensuring that all surgical instruments are meticulously cleaned, sterilized, and ready for use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly decontaminate and sanitize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Conduct inspections of instruments to assess their condition, cleanliness, and operational functionality.
- Assemble and package instrument trays and sets in accordance with established protocols.
- Operate and maintain sterilization machinery, including autoclaves, to ensure effective sterilization.
- Monitor and document sterilization processes to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Manage the inventory of sterile supplies and coordinate orders for replacements as necessary.
- Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to protect patient health.
- Collaborate with surgical and medical personnel to guarantee the timely availability of sterile instruments.
- Maintain accurate records of all sterilization activities for compliance and quality assurance.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (e.g., CRCST or CBSPD) is preferred.
- Prior experience in sterile processing or a related field is advantageous.
- Familiarity with sterilization techniques, equipment, and infection control standards is essential.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills are necessary.
- Physical capability to lift and transport equipment and supplies as required.
