About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mental Health Specialist to join our team at NELFT NHS Foundation Trust. As an Education Mental Health Practitioner/Children's Wellbeing Practitioner, you will play a vital role in providing expert emotional wellbeing and mental health support to children and young people in educational settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and deliver outcome-focused, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Work in partnership with children, young people, and families to develop plans for intervention and agreed outcomes.
  • Undertake accurate assessments of risk to self and others.
  • Escalate cases where the level of need becomes beyond scope or more severe, ensuring adherence to relevant service delivery elements.
  • Provide information and support for evidence-based psychological treatments, primarily guided self-help.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to children and young people in treatment, where appropriate.
  • Initiate referrals to other health professional specialist services and agencies.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of the HEE/NHSE commissioned 1-year Education Mental Health Practitioner/Children's Wellbeing Practitioner course.
  • Appropriate registration with either the BABCP or BPS as a low-intensity practitioner.
  • Knowledge of capacity and consent issues, including Gillick competence.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic awareness of IT and IT skills.
  • Ability to travel efficiently throughout the area.
  • Experience of delivering specific therapeutic interventions to children, young people, or their families (CBT, solution-focused brief therapy).
  • Ability to conduct mental health assessments, risk assessments, and communicate appropriately with children, young people, and parents.
  • Ability to work within educational settings to increase mental health awareness within the staff group.
  • Knowledge of educational environments and safeguarding issues.
