Specialist Nurse in Sexual Health for Learning Disabilities

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialist Nurse in Sexual Health for Learning Disabilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving access to sexual health services for people with learning disabilities (PWLD) and their carers.
Key Responsibilities- Improving access and bridging any gaps for PWLD and carers to sexual health advice, information, and clinical services.
- Providing free condoms and lube and access to the C-Card for young people.
- Supporting health, social, and VCS networks to identify PWLD, make reasonable service adjustments, assess sexual health needs, and refer to appropriate support services.
- Establishing seamless pathways between sexual health services and statutory, VCS, and primary care services.
- Improving engagement of PWLD and carers in planning care.
- Embedding health promotion advice and support across pathways to reduce health inequalities.
- Registered General Nurse (RGN) with NMC Sub-part 1 Adult branch.
- University certificate or equivalent in Sexual Health training.
- DFRSH/University Certificate in Contraception/Reproductive Health or equivalent recognized training.
- Independent Nurse Prescriber or willing to train.
- Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
- LOC SDI or equivalent qualification.
- LOC IUT or equivalent qualification.
- Certificate in mentorship course.
- Ability to work autonomously and be self-directed.
- Clear vision and in-depth understanding of the quality agenda with working with PWLD.
- Teaching and presentation skills.
- Proficient IT skills.
- Ability to work and communicate successfully in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
- Excellent writing skills, able to produce reports about complex subjects/concepts.
- Evidence of ability to motivate, manage, and lead staff or an organization.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with people with LD.
- Able to perform or willing to train in pelvic bimanual examination.
- Able to perform cervical cytology.
- Knowledge of Sexual Health needs of all genders.
- Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.
- Understanding of the legislation relating to young people, including Fraser guidelines, of legislation, policies, and guidance on confidentiality and child protection issues.
- Comprehensive understanding of national and local policies relating to sexual and reproductive health.
- Understanding of the principles and practices of good sexual health and barriers to PWLD accessing services.
- Substantive experience of working in Sexual Health.
- Experience of working to PGDs (if not a prescriber).
- Experience of delivering evidence-based clinical care.
- Experience of working with PWLD.
- Experience of working with client groups from a diverse ethnically mixed background.
- Experience of working at an advanced practitioner level/Specialist Nurse.
- Experience of projects/service development.
- Delivery of workshops.
- Working effectively with different agencies in the community, voluntary, or statutory sectors.
