Position Overview

The Clinical OPAT Nurse Consultant will provide specialized care for a diverse patient population enrolled in the OPAT program. Utilizing advanced clinical skills and specialized knowledge, the consultant will ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care tailored to the unique needs of each patient.

This role encompasses care provision in various settings, including infusion centers, outpatient clinics, and community environments. The position involves independent work, requiring the consultant to manage their own caseload effectively.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical OPAT Nurse Consultant, your primary duties will include:

  • Coordinating comprehensive aspects of the OPAT service.
  • Conducting patient assessments to determine the most suitable treatment delivery methods.
  • Educating patients on self-administration techniques.
  • Administering intravenous antibiotics both in community settings and at home.
  • Overseeing OPAT treatments within the infusion center.
  • Managing personal workload efficiently while ensuring high standards of care.

A strong interest in holistic patient care, particularly in infection management, is essential. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the role involves significant community engagement and requires autonomous decision-making.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing or a related health field, or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of all local competency requirements relevant to the role.
  • Significant post-registration experience in a relevant clinical setting.
