Job Description

We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our team at Ubiquity Press, a leading academic publishing startup based in London. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our software systems that support the publishing and research communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop software systems that meet the needs of our users, including researchers, authors, and publishers.
  • Collaborate with our cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality software code, following best practices and industry standards.
  • Work closely with our product management team to ensure that our software systems meet the evolving needs of our users.
  • Contribute to the development of our technical documentation and knowledge base.
Requirements
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience.
  • Strong understanding of programming languages, including Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git, Mercurial, or SVN.
  • Knowledge of database design and SQL.
  • Experience with test-driven development and unit testing.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with agile development methodologies.
  • Knowledge of continuous integration and deployment practices.
  • Experience with cloud-based infrastructure and services.
  • Understanding of open-source software and open-access publishing.
