Behaviour Mentor Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to support individuals with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide patient and empathetic support to individuals with PMLD, understanding their complex needs and adapting to their sensory and educational requirements.
  • Utilize alternative communication methods, such as Makaton, PECs, and sensory-based communication, to facilitate effective interaction.
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, mobility, and medical needs, including administering medication and using mobility aids.
  • Develop and implement creative activities to meet the sensory and educational needs of PMLD learners, incorporating sensory play, music, and interactive learning techniques.
  • Manage challenging behaviours positively and proactively, promoting a safe and supportive environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to adapt to the individual needs of each person, ensuring a flexible and responsive approach.
  • Stay up-to-date with first aid and emergency procedures relevant to PMLD individuals, including managing seizures and using assistive devices.

Requirements:

  • Relevant behaviour mentor qualifications or certifications.
  • A passion for health and social care, with a commitment to improving the lives of individuals with PMLD.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and individuals with complex needs.
  • Enthusiasm for working with school students and a willingness to adapt to their unique requirements.
  • Adaptability and a commitment to ongoing professional development, ensuring the highest standards of care and support.
