Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Spanish at various levels on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, from A1 to C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will employ a range of pedagogical methods suitable for lectures, seminars, and online sessions, and prepare and disseminate relevant learning materials, including managing course portals on the University's Virtual Learning Environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and disseminate relevant learning materials
  • Manage course portals on the University's Virtual Learning Environment
  • Provide effective feedback, support, and guidance to students
Requirements

The successful candidate will hold a Honours degree or equivalent in Spanish and/or Hispanic Studies, or a languages-related subject if a native speaker of Spanish. They will have attained a teaching qualification or have relevant experience in teaching Languages and be proficient in English. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline would be preferred, or a Doctorate or evidence of research in a relevant area. It is also preferable that the Lecturer is an Associate or Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of teaching Spanish to Advanced level
  • Native or near-native proficiency in spoken and written Spanish
  • Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of best practice in language learning and teaching
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students from a range of different backgrounds and disciplines
