Position Overview

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - Band 7

An exciting opportunity has emerged for a dedicated and proactive pharmacist to become a vital member of the mental health team. This role will involve collaboration with multidisciplinary teams across various settings, including both inpatient and community environments, to deliver exceptional, professional, and specialized pharmacy services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring and overseeing the development of band 6 pharmacists and trainee pharmacists. Additionally, there will be a significant focus on training healthcare professionals and support staff as part of the multidisciplinary teams.

The Pharmacy Department operates within a collaborative framework that includes multiple mental health services, ensuring a comprehensive approach to optimizing both mental and physical health medications.

Key Responsibilities

As a member of the multidisciplinary team, you will:

  • Deliver a thorough clinical pharmacy service, ensuring safe, effective, and optimized medication use across various settings.
  • Contribute to the educational and training initiatives within the department, supervising and guiding band 6 pharmacists and trainees.
  • Collaborate closely with dispensary personnel to maintain an efficient dispensing and supply service.
  • Assist the Lead Medicines Safety and Governance Pharmacist in developing policies and procedures related to medication use at both local and organizational levels.
  • Participate in quality improvement training to support the implementation of quality initiatives and medication audit programs.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development at the postgraduate level.
  • Minimum of two years of hospital or practice-based pharmacy experience.
  • Experience in providing Medicines Information and related systems.
  • Proven experience in supervising staff and delivering medicines education to users and caregivers.
  • Experience in conducting audit cycles.

Desirable

  • Experience in a pharmacy service focused on mental health.

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong critical appraisal and report writing skills.
  • Proficient IT skills and effective communication abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant pharmaceutical standards and current issues in pharmacy.
  • Understanding of mental health pharmacy and the needs of individuals with mental health challenges.
