Position Overview

Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust is seeking to appoint two dedicated Healthcare Support Assistants for permanent full-time or part-time roles. Key Responsibilities

1. Follow the directives of the Registered Nurse (RN) to ensure high-quality patient care.
2. Execute tasks as outlined in the trust's Approved Core Task List for Healthcare Support Assistants, within your assessed competencies.
3. Report any patient concerns or changes in clinical status to registered staff promptly.
4. Foster patients' emotional well-being through positive interactions and encourage their active participation in care.
5. Maintain accurate documentation of all care provided, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with trust policies.
6. Respond effectively to clinical emergencies, understanding your role in such situations.
7. Welcome patients to the clinical environment and assist with the admission process under RN supervision.
8. Ensure the clinical area is clean, organized, and safe for patients and staff.
9. Support relatives in accordance with guidance from the healthcare team.
10. Assist with the discharge process as directed by the RN or a member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

Responsibilities in Communication

1. Greet patients, visitors, and relatives warmly, offering assistance and information as needed.
2. Answer phone calls courteously and direct inquiries to the appropriate RN.
3. Collaborate effectively with the nursing team and other departments to ensure comprehensive patient care.
4. Participate in patient handovers under RN supervision while maintaining confidentiality.
5. Report and document incidents, accidents, and complaints using the trust's systems.

Management Duties

1. Ensure the safe keeping of patients' belongings in line with trust policy.
2. Maintain a professional and tidy environment, ensuring all storage areas are organized.
3. Share responsibility for the care and maintenance of clinical equipment.
4. Dispose of waste and soiled linen according to trust guidelines.
5. Participate in audits as directed.

Professional Development

1. Stay current with mandatory training, including safeguarding.
2. Complete the Care Certificate or demonstrate relevant healthcare experience.
3. Be adaptable to patient needs and participate in personal development opportunities.
4. Support and mentor new staff through the local induction program.
5. Keep informed of changes in policies and procedures relevant to your role.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Mathematics (Grade C or equivalent).
  • Care Certificate or equivalent healthcare experience.

Desirable Qualifications

  • City and Guilds NVQ Level 3 in Care/Health and Social Care.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a nursing or care assistant role.
