Senior Hardware Engineer

As a Senior Hardware Engineer at Matchtech, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of satellite communications equipment from concept to delivery.

This is a unique opportunity to join a small team and have a significant impact on the product direction. You will work closely with the larger business to ensure that the hardware design meets the required specifications and is delivered on time.

The projects will range from small contract-related customizations to larger new product development activities with varying timescales.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop printed circuit boards with analog and digital components
  • Write firmware to support the hardware development
  • Provide technical support to production and other engineering teams
  • Facilitate and participate in electronic design reviews and provide feedback
  • Develop and execute test plans for analog and digital boards
  • Debug complex problems on printed circuit boards
  • Analyze requirements and derive system-level to firmware-level requirements and architecture
  • Integrate hardware and software components
  • Propose improvements in tools, processes, and techniques to support quality and innovation
  • Contribute to project planning and estimation
  • Review technical proposals and assist with providing accurate estimates for bids and proposals
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Design of digital and analog circuits
  • Analog simulation
  • Prior experience in embedded firmware development using C/C++, assembly languages, and code development processes
  • Working knowledge of processor platforms such as Microchip/Atmel, Arm, Renesas, and Freescale
  • Experience with serial communications like Ethernet, USB, and PCIe
  • Working knowledge of serial communication protocols such as USB, UART (Rs232, Rs484), I2C, SPI
  • Understanding of bare metal start-up of microcontrollers
  • Ability to read and interpret hardware schematics
  • Experience with version control, change control, and bug tracking tools
  • Experience with best practice firmware development processes and lifecycles
  • Knowledge of AC-DC and DC-DC converters
Desirable:
  • VHDL for FPGA development
  • Embedded PC module integration
  • Developing complete designs using AMD Xilinx and Intel Altera devices and toolset
  • Knowledge of EMC standards and design principles
  • Knowledge of military standards
  • Knowledge of FCC, EN, and IEC standards
  • Knowledge of system-level power budgets
  • Elaboration of constraints for printed circuit board design
  • Knowledge of electronic design tool CADStar or equivalent PCB CAD Design tools
  • Experience with FPGA module design and implementation
  • Experience with FPGA firmware testing, test tools, and design for test
