Position Overview
The Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) serves as a dedicated, autonomous judicial entity tasked with adjudicating appeals concerning decisions made by competition and regulatory bodies, as well as claims for damages resulting from breaches of competition legislation. Its authority spans the entirety of the UK, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s competition framework.
This role presents a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the forefront of substantive competition law and judicial processes. The Tribunal's work encompasses all facets of competition litigation, including appeals against infringement determinations, judicial reviews of mergers and market inquiries, and private litigation, which includes collective actions and expedited procedures.
Key Responsibilities
In this position, you will directly support the President, Chairs, and Registrar of the Tribunal, engaging in a case management role that is vital to the Tribunal's operations. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating with involved parties and Tribunal members to facilitate the efficient progression of cases.
- Conducting legal research and crafting comprehensive analyses.
- Providing legal and procedural guidance to Chairs and Tribunal members regarding case management.
- Attending hearings and addressing pertinent issues as necessary.
- Drafting orders, judgments, and related documentation.
- Supporting external speaking engagements as required.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess substantial legal expertise and be a collaborative team member, adept at managing procedural matters and evaluating legal and factual issues presented in submissions.

Compensation and Benefits
In addition to a competitive salary of £76,000, the Competition Service/Competition Appeal Tribunal contributes £20,520 towards membership in the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme. Additional benefits include:
