Position Overview

Role Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be an integral part of our drainage section, focusing on the Council's responsibilities as the Lead Local Flood Authority. Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing the design and implementation of flood alleviation, coastal protection, and land drainage projects.
  • Collaborating with engineers and technicians to manage various projects effectively.
  • Engaging with contractors on-site to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Providing guidance and support to team members while fostering a collaborative work environment.

Essential Skills
  • Strong communication abilities, including proficiency in report writing and correspondence.
  • Capability to monitor and assess performance against established targets.
  • Experience in managing contractor relationships with fairness and diplomacy.
  • Proficient in prioritizing tasks and managing multiple projects concurrently.
  • Skilled in negotiation and conflict resolution to maintain positive working relationships.

Knowledge Requirements
  • In-depth understanding of civil engineering principles, particularly in urban drainage.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory obligations.
  • Familiarity with Civil Engineering Method of Measurement and contract law.
  • Experience in financial monitoring and budget management.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Significant experience in civil engineering design, surveying, and contract preparation.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in managing teams.
  • Proven track record in supervising contractors and managing contracts effectively.
  • A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Incorporated Engineer Status or progress towards IEng/CEng status, with membership in a relevant professional association.
