Position Overview

Join our dynamic team at Eton College as a full-time Aquatic Safety Officer, where your enthusiasm and dedication will contribute to a secure environment for all visitors at our state-of-the-art facility. This impressive venue features a 25-meter, 8-lane indoor swimming pool with an adjustable floor depth, alongside a versatile sports hall that accommodates various activities such as badminton, basketball, five-a-side football, volleyball, and gymnastics, and can transform into a 200-seat examination space.

Our offerings include a national-standard athletics stadium, floodlit all-weather pitches, and a fully equipped gymnasium.

The Aquatic Safety Officers are entrusted with the health and safety of all pool users, ensuring cleanliness in poolside and communal areas. Responsibilities include setting up swimming sessions, managing equipment, and assisting the Duty Manager with facility operations.

Qualifications and Requirements

All Aquatic Safety Officers at Eton College must possess a valid National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). However, if you have relevant experience but do not yet hold an NPLQ, we encourage you to express your interest in this role.

Prerequisites for Lifeguard Training

Candidates for the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course must be at least 16 years old and demonstrate the following abilities:

  • Jump or dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 meters in under 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 meters continuously on both front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the bottom of the pool
  • Exit the pool unaided where design permits

Main Responsibilities

Key Duties:

  • Execute all operational tasks in line with NOP/EAP procedures as outlined in the Staff Information file;
  • Enforce water safety regulations and pool policies during shifts;
  • Monitor the safety and behavior of pool users to prevent injuries and ensure proper facility use;
  • Perform lifeguard rescues as necessary;
  • Maintain full responsibility for facility safety during shifts, ensuring proper use of swimming pools and communal areas;
  • Ensure cleanliness of poolside and shared spaces;
  • Prepare for swim sessions by setting up and dismantling equipment;
  • Assist the Duty Manager with facility operations;
  • Promptly report maintenance issues to minimize disruption;
  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of Eton College's services;
  • Participate in required staff training;
  • Undertake additional duties as requested by the Sports Facilities Operations Manager.
