Deputy Director, Data Protection Officer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Protection Officer to join our Senior Leadership team at the Department of Work and Pensions. As a Deputy Director, you will play a key role in leading our Security and Data Protection Directorate, providing expert advice on data protection risk and compliance, and enabling the delivery of our future strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on data protection risk and compliance to senior stakeholders within DWP and the Information Commissioner's Office.
  • Lead a team of 40 Information Rights specialists, including the Departmental Information Management Team and the central Freedom of Information Team.
  • Monitor the Department's compliance with data protection obligations and raise issues, risks, and concerns.
  • Act as the first point of contact for DWP's customers and employees for Data Protection matters.
  • Oversee DWP's overall FOI performance and be the point of contact between DWP and the Information Commissioner's Office.

Requirements

  • Hold a recognised Data Protection qualification.
  • Experience of operating within a data protection profession in an organisation that processes a significant amount of personal data.
  • A proven track record of delivering timely quality outcomes and excellent communicating and influencing skills.
  • Confidence in stakeholder management and a law degree or professional legal qualification.
  • Awareness of the legal and regulatory framework in which a large organisation operates.
