Rehabilitation Instructor - Military Medical Personnel

Essential Qualifications for the Remedial Instructor:

  • BSc (Hons) in Sports Rehabilitation or equivalent qualifications.
  • Membership in the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers (BaSRaT).
  • At least 2 years of post-qualification experience dealing with musculoskeletal (MSK) sports injuries.

Role Overview:
The rehabilitation services within the military are structured across various treatment facilities.

Primary Care Rehabilitation Facilities (PCRFs):

Patients may be referred to a physiotherapist at a PCRF, typically located within military healthcare settings.

A physiotherapist will conduct a comprehensive assessment within a specified timeframe following the initial consultation, providing necessary treatment and rehabilitation.

Many PCRFs employ an Exercise Rehabilitation Instructor who can deliver targeted exercise therapy and guidance on a gradual return to physical fitness.


Regional Rehabilitation Units (RRUs):

If a condition requires more specialized care beyond the PCRF, patients are referred to an RRU.

RRUs offer expert assessment and recommendations through a Multi-disciplinary Injury Assessment Clinic, staffed by specialized medical professionals.

These clinics utilize advanced medical imaging to ensure accurate diagnoses and develop tailored treatment plans, including pain management options.


Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC):

The DMRC focuses on providing consultant-led rehabilitation services, assisting military personnel with significant musculoskeletal injuries, neurological conditions, and complex trauma.

The primary goal is to enhance the functional capabilities and overall quality of life for patients, whether they are reintegrating into military service or transitioning to civilian life.
