Position Overview:

As a Higher Apprentice in Mechanical Engineering, you will embark on a journey to become a proficient designer within Raytheon Technologies' Airborne Solutions division. This apprenticeship is structured to provide a comprehensive learning experience, starting with a full-time commitment at Coleg Cambria during the initial year, where you will complete essential key skills required for your apprenticeship.

Program Structure:

In the subsequent years, you will transition to the Raytheon design office, where you will gain hands-on experience under the guidance of seasoned engineers. This phase will involve engaging in real-world projects, allowing you to take ownership of your contributions while enhancing your technical skills. The apprenticeship combines practical work with academic study, featuring day release to college.

Qualifications and Skills:

Essential:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, demonstrating initiative.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player with a proactive approach to daily tasks.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Customer-oriented mindset, with a focus on meeting deadlines and managing time efficiently.
  • Capability to gather and organize information effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and lead your project requirements.
  • Eligibility for SC security clearance (sponsorship available).

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with CAD software such as Catia V5, Solidworks, Creo, or AutoCAD.
  • Experience in drafting.
  • Understanding of aerospace systems, including avionics, electrical power, and mechanical fabrication and machining.

Entry Requirements:

  • Two A Levels, including a grade B or higher in Mathematics and a grade C or higher in Physics.
  • Six GCSEs at grade C or above, including Mathematics, English, and Science (core and additional).
  • An engineering level 3 qualification at triple distinction grade may be accepted as an alternative to A Levels, along with equivalent GCSE qualifications.
