As a key member of our Legal Services Team, you will provide comprehensive legal support to our colleagues and clients, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and delivering proactive and reactive legal services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide cover for Paralegals, Legal Officers, and lawyers during their absence, ensuring seamless service delivery.
  • Assist senior members of Legal Services in ensuring the Council complies with all legislative requirements, providing proactive and reactive legal services.
  • Conduct all aspects of Local Authority legal work, including drafting advice, court attendance, and representing the Council where necessary.
  • Work with appropriate supervision, utilizing experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Housing, including disrepair
    • Civil litigation, including employment
    • Contract and procurement
    • Planning
    • Prosecutions
    • Property, including commercial and residential, and Right to Buy
    • Adult safeguarding
    • Child safeguarding
    • Adoption
    • Homelessness
    • Community care
    • Judicial Review
    • Education
    • Governance
    • Advocacy
  • Provide proactive solution-focused legal advice, adopting best practice in the management of individual matters through the use of the Legal Services case management system and good legal practice management standards.
  • Where authorized, instruct Counsel to advise the Council.
  • Be aware of the Council's policy on Risk Management and escalate any new emerging or potential risks to the post holder's line manager.
  • Carry out all accountabilities in compliance with the Council's Policies and Procedures.

Essential Experience and Qualification:

  • Experience of or an interest in disrepair and a willingness to develop and learn further skills/areas of work.
