About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accredited Counsellor to join our team at Optima Health. As a key member of our occupational health team, you will provide confidential counselling and related services to staff and officers within the Metropolitan Police Service.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct Psychological Screenings: Conduct weekly psychological screenings with clients in vulnerable roles, providing a safe and confidential space for them to discuss their concerns.
  • Facilitate Support Groups: Facilitate support groups with officers and staff, focusing on various mental health topics, such as bereavement, substance misuse, and trauma.
  • Crisis Counselling: Provide crisis counselling on a case-by-case basis, as specified by the Clinical Lead.
  • Trauma Interventions: Deliver trauma interventions, including major and critical incidents, in accordance with Optima Health's policies and procedures.
  • Caseload Management: Manage your own caseload, delivering short-term (up to 6 sessions) of counselling for clients with personal or work-related issues, with the goal of returning staff to full duties.
  • Long-term Support: Provide intermittent, longer-term support to suspended officers, helping them to manage their mental health and well-being.
  • Advice and Support: Offer advice and support to managers on counselling services and managing a duty mailbox for urgent assessments of clients.
  • Psycho Risk Assessments: Conduct psychological risk assessments for referrals received from managers and other occupational health departments, acting in accordance with Optima Health's risk management protocol.
  • Practical Problem-Solving: Offer practical problem-solving guidance and signpost to other external agencies or internal multi-specialist occupational health teams, which may include delivering presentations.
  • Needs Assessment and Planning: Assess officers' needs, plan effectively, monitor, and evaluate interventions using evidence-based practice applied to individual needs.
Requirements
  • BACP Accreditation: BACP accreditation is essential, or equivalent.
  • Experience in Substance Misuse: Experience in substance misuse would be advantageous.
  • Psychological Risk Assessment: Evidence of completion of psychological risk assessment and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Brief Counselling Model: Experience of delivering a brief counselling model.
  • IAPT Measurement Forms: Understanding of the use of IAPT measurement forms.
  • Clinical Governance and Risk Management: Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
  • Experience in Counselling Services: At least 3 years' experience of working in a counselling service, occupational health, or related service offering short-term solution-focused therapy.
  • CBT Training: CBT-trained practitioners desirable but not essential.
