Role Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Senior Government Statistician, you will:

  • Provide high-quality statistical guidance and analysis to shape discussions and influence policy decisions.
  • Utilize various software tools and analytical methodologies.

  • Employ innovative strategies to source new data.
  • Oversee statistical production and address challenges in data management and analysis.

Candidate Profile

We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in the following essential areas:

  • Proven analytical capabilities, with a solid history of applying research or analysis and a comprehensive understanding of data sources.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to convey complex analyses to non-specialists and engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ability to deliver analytical outputs within tight timelines, contributing to statistical production.
  • Experience in leading teams, overcoming challenges, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality outcomes.

Educational Requirements

To qualify for this position, candidates should possess or be on track to obtain by September 2024:

  • A first or second class honours degree in a quantitative discipline (minimum 2:2 for Statistical Officer) with at least 25% statistical content (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography, Data Science, or similar);
  • Alternatively, a higher degree, such as an MSc or PhD, in a field that includes formal statistical training.

Alternatively, candidates may apply if they:

  • Have a minimum of two years' experience in a statistical or data science role and can demonstrate Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in applying statistics or data science at a level comparable to a foundation degree or Higher National Diploma.
  • Have achieved or are on track to achieve a level 4 apprenticeship, including at least two years in a statistical/data analysis role within the public sector, with evidence of CPD.
