The Operations Engineer plays a crucial role in overseeing the monitoring, operation, and management of project assets around the clock. This position demands a solid foundation in engineering and technical expertise to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of plant and equipment, aligning with the operational and commercial goals of the client. Flexibility is essential, as the role may involve remote control room operations and site activities to meet business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continuously monitor and manage plant operations, including shutdowns and startups, responding promptly to alarms, and adhering to customer directives and daily operational tasks.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations while executing all duties in accordance with relevant codes and standards.
- Maintain plant availability and adherence to operations and maintenance procedures.
- Execute shutdown and startup protocols within designated timeframes, ensuring safe and efficient plant operation.
- Follow established processes and procedures to facilitate effective plant operations, utilizing technical documentation and schematics.
- Utilize computerized Plant Management Systems for logging shifts, fault notifications, work orders, and parts requisitions.
- Engage with customers and external stakeholders regarding power and gas supply and distribution.
- Respond to routine and safety instructions from customers and traders.
- Submit regulatory information to accurately reflect technical availability and ensure compliance with legislative requirements.
- Implement control system logic modifications and conduct simulations to uphold plant safety and reliability, adhering to company quality systems.
- Contribute to the development of operational excellence strategies in alignment with Siemens Energy and client objectives.
- Assist in Root Cause Analysis and Failure Mode Effects Analysis for site incidents as necessary.
- Act as a deputy for the Operations Support Engineer during their absence.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong practical engineering and technical knowledge, applying principles and procedures for safe operation and maintenance of power generation facilities.
- Experience in power generation, heavy industry, or power transmission operations.
- Understanding of health and safety practices.
- Self-motivated with effective workload prioritization skills.
- Advanced problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to accurately document and report critical plant information.
- Proficient in developing and adhering to Safe Systems of Work.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum qualification of HNC or equivalent in engineering.
- In-depth knowledge of power plant principles, including performance, efficiency, and environmental operations.
- At least 5 years of operational and maintenance experience in the power generation sector.
- Familiarity with health and safety management processes.
- Solid understanding of roles and responsibilities within safe systems of work.
- Health and Safety qualification (NEBOSH or equivalent).
