This position is available on a full-time basis (10 PA), although applications for part-time roles will also be welcomed.
The primary location for this role will be within our Eye Centre, supported by services at additional hospital sites. It is common for staff to operate across multiple locations. Any necessary travel between sites during working hours will be accounted for in the job plan. The department is equipped with secretarial assistance and office facilities, including computer and IT resources. Our team includes Optometrists, Orthoptists, Specialist Nurses, and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers, ensuring comprehensive support.
Main Responsibilities
The core responsibilities of this role include:
1. Facilitating the delivery of General Ophthalmology services, with a focus on either Acute Eye Services or other subspecialties that align with departmental needs.
2. Conducting outpatient consultations and day case surgical procedures.
3. Managing a patient load that typically involves approximately 12 individuals in face-to-face consultations and 24 in virtual appointments. In surgical settings, the expectation is to perform around 7 cataract procedures.
4. Engaging in urgent and emergency care duties, including participation in out-of-hours on-call rotations, while adhering to working time regulations and ensuring safe practices.
5. On-call responsibilities are currently shared among 8 colleagues on a 1:8.5 rota, with an assessment of 0.89 PA.
6. The successful candidate will be allocated 1.5 Core Supporting Professional Activities, with specific objectives established in line with the Trust Framework and national Terms and Conditions of Service. An additional 0.5 PA may be available for extra responsibilities, such as leadership roles within the service.
