About the Position
This role is essential for ensuring a secure and cost-effective energy system for consumers in Great Britain, contributing significantly to the UK's commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050. Collaborating with our partners, we develop interconnectors that facilitate the transfer of renewable energy between the UK and neighboring nations.
As an Energy Operations Supervisor, you will be at the forefront of the electricity sector, overseeing the daily safe and efficient functioning of the Nemo Link Interconnector that connects Belgium and the UK. You will be part of a dedicated 24/7 team managing real-time operations from the control room and will play a crucial role in executing maintenance tasks on-site.
Your responsibilities will include acting as the primary point of contact for monitoring alarms, conducting initial investigations, and performing emergency response actions. You will conduct routine inspections (both electrical and mechanical) of site assets, which include tracking HVAC circuit breaker operations, ensuring emergency lighting is operational, and verifying fire system emergency call points.
Additionally, you will carry out minor maintenance tasks on-site assets, such as replacing fan belts in air conditioning systems, taking oil samples, and performing troubleshooting and maintenance on various electrical and electronic equipment, including contactors, relays, and PLCs.
In this role, you will perform regular inspections and checks, including visual assessments of equipment, perimeter walks around the site, and ensuring that maintenance records are accurately documented in the asset management system. You will also execute remote switching on equipment on both the UK and Belgian sides of the interconnector and implement isolations on high voltage equipment, once authorized.
This position requires you to work on a 12-hour shift schedule, alternating between four days on and four days off (including both day and night shifts).
About You
You are a collaborative team member with excellent communication skills, capable of clearly conveying technical issues to a variety of contractors and control room personnel in both the UK and Belgium.
Ideally, you will have experience in the energy sector or within a control room setting, along with a solid understanding of high voltage electrical assets. Previous authorization under HV Safety Rules would be advantageous, as would a background in industrial maintenance with experience in troubleshooting and knowledge of PLC systems.
You should possess strong analytical skills and be proficient in common IT software suites such as MS Office.
A qualification equivalent to City & Guilds in an Electrical/Electronic discipline, NVQ4, or HNC (preferably in an electrical field, although mechanical qualifications are acceptable) is required.
