This role involves collaborating closely with the Director of Midwifery and the Clinical Lead Consultant Obstetrician to develop and implement effective maternity governance frameworks that prioritize patient safety.

You will oversee the strategic and operational aspects of quality assurance related to clinical governance in maternity, gynecology, and pediatrics.

Main Responsibilities

As the Lead Midwife, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the assessment of clinical governance standards, clinical effectiveness, and patient safety initiatives in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fostering strong relationships with clinical colleagues and working alongside Divisional Clinical Governance Leads and Management Teams to fulfill the objectives of this position.
  • Ensuring the integration of information and insights from various departments to provide guidance and direction in Quality Governance, Effectiveness, and Quality Improvements.
  • Serving as an expert clinical midwife to maintain credibility in executing and delivering your responsibilities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC registered midwife (current)
  • Master's level education or equivalent experience.
  • Post-registration qualification with a relevant Master's degree or equivalent, or working towards it, focusing on leadership in Quality Assurance, Governance, Audit, and Quality Improvement.
  • Trained in Root Cause Analysis with the ability to evaluate aggregated management systems.
  • PSIRF training completed or willingness to undertake.

Desirable

  • Recognized qualification in quality assurance, compliance, and governance.
  • Leadership/management qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in a senior management role within a complex organization.
  • Expert clinical midwifery experience across professional boundaries, demonstrating credible midwifery knowledge.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary staff groups.
  • Experience in risk management processes, incident investigations, and shared learning.
  • Proven ability to deliver training and provide governance advice to clinicians and senior managers.
  • Experience in drafting and developing policies and establishing compliance processes.

Desirable

  • Experience implementing changes in clinical practice across the system.
  • Experience in risk and governance roles within a Women's and Children's Division.
