Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner to join our team at Reed Procurement & Supply Chain. As a Transport Planner, you will be responsible for controlling the efficient deployment and routing of delivery vehicles around the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan workloads to ensure compliance with driver's hours and maximize vehicle utilization
- Use geographical knowledge to optimize delivery routes and minimize running costs
- Successfully plan vehicle routes to maximize revenue and minimize costs
- Brief and debrief drivers on daily operations and ensure they have the necessary paperwork and compliance
- Supervise and manage driver workloads, sourcing extra drivers when needed and reacting to route planning changes
- Provide a detailed and accurate handover to next shift and maintain driver and depot communication
- Ensure drivers are up to date with any road problems and challenge them when necessary to ensure timely deliveries
- Work collaboratively with a team of planners to achieve effective servicing of our client base
- Liaise with the Transport Manager on regular maintenance intervals and with Site Managers to obtain and provide key information such as ETAs
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Transport Planner in a busy office environment
- Experience monitoring drivers and a solid understanding of transport operating systems
- A knowledge of tachograph regulations and the ability to organize workload in a consistent and methodical way
- Excellent interpersonal skills, relationship building, and strong communication skills
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and work to deadlines without supervision and on their own initiative
