Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Orthodontic Consultant to join our team at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our Orthodontic department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the efficient running of the department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver and supervise NHS clinics, providing exceptional patient care and contributing to continuing education and professional development within the department.
  • Contribute to clinical audit and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Specialist in Paediatric Dentistry, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex orthodontic needs.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, including Specialist Registrars, Orthodontic Therapists, and Specialty Doctors, to ensure their professional development and growth.
  • Engage in joint clinics with other specialties, including Orthognathic MDT Clinics, Cleft Lip and Palate MDT Clinics, and Orthodontic/Paediatric Dentistry MDT Clinics.

Requirements

  • Full registration with the General Dental Council and on the GDC Specialist List in Orthodontics.
  • BDS or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership in Orthodontics or equivalent.
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics or equivalent.
  • Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCT in Orthodontics.
  • Successful completion of an SAC-approved three-year training programme in Orthodontics or equivalent for other European Economic Area (EEA) Nationals.
  • Successful completion of an SAC-approved 2-year minimum training programme in a Fixed Term Training Appointment (FTTA) in Orthodontics, or within 6 months of completion of training, or equivalent.
  • Experience in the treatment of complex orthodontic, orthognathic, and hypodontia patients.
