About the Role

Join a dynamic team at Macstaff as a Cost Management Specialist, where you will engage in QS and financial oversight for high-value, heritage construction and restoration projects. This role involves working with a specialized contractor on a flagship initiative that spans multiple phases and years.

Your Responsibilities

As a Cost Management Specialist, you will oversee all financial elements of the project, collaborating closely with the site team to uphold exceptional quality and profitability standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain stringent control over numerous variations across various ongoing projects, assisting site and contract managers in documenting, pricing, and accurately reflecting their impact on final accounts.
  • Engage in the calculation and preparation of company valuations and final accounts.
  • Prepare and present monthly job cost analysis reports, evaluating current practices and proposing enhancements.
  • Organize and manage subcontract orders and applications, while assisting with subcontract inquiries and management.
  • Conduct cost analysis for repair and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support in identifying client requirements and conducting feasibility assessments.
  • Coordinate with internal Accounts Departments to ensure cash flow for upcoming payment certifications.
  • Implement risk and value management strategies alongside cost control measures.
  • Analyze subcontractor costs prior to project commencement.
  • Identify, assess, and develop strategies to mitigate commercial risks.
  • Evaluate completed work and facilitate payments.
  • Stay informed about various building contracts currently in use.
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.

Your Qualifications

To excel in this position, we seek an experienced Cost Management Specialist with a blend of the following qualifications:

  • HNC in Construction or a relevant degree-level qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of private residential building contracting.
  • Familiarity with property taxation and contractual law.
  • Strong technical understanding of both traditional and modern building methods and materials related to refurbishment and new construction projects in the prime residential sector.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly with intermediate Excel skills.
  • Ability to produce clear and precise communications, including detailed figures, calculations, and specific building information.
  • Strong numeracy and financial management capabilities, with a willingness to learn construction management IT tools.
