The University of Glasgow is part of a collaborative initiative involving seven universities, aimed at establishing a new national research center funded by substantial UKRI and stakeholder co-investment for a 5-year, £45M program focused on challenge-led research in digital twinning for transport decarbonization.
This research will leverage successful consultations that examined transport decarbonization and mode integration.This national research hub will be tasked with generating new insights, technical capabilities, and policy recommendations related to the UK's digital twinning priorities in transport decarbonization.
The ambitious research program is backed by over 65 industrial, research, and stakeholder organizations.The consortium represents a diverse network of experts, including a significant number of early career researchers, research associates, and PhD candidates, who will collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment to achieve groundbreaking research outcomes.
The successful applicant will work closely with Dr. M. Sevegnani and Dr. B. Archibald, contributing significantly to the project while also participating in the development and submission of research publications and proposals, as well as assisting in managing this complex project as opportunities arise. Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesLead the planning and execution of assigned research tasks, either independently or collaboratively, in alignment with project deliverables and the research strategy of the project/group/School/College.
Document research findings, including data analysis and interpretation, maintaining records and databases, and drafting technical/progress reports and papers as necessary.
Establish and enhance your research profile and that of the University of Glasgow/School/Research Group, including a track record of independent and joint publications of international quality in high-profile refereed journals, enhancing research impact in terms of economic and societal benefits.
Conduct literature reviews to understand research challenges related to the project and develop/implement an appropriate research strategy.
Present research findings at national and international conferences, seminars, colloquia, and workshops to enhance the research profile.
Identify potential funding sources and assist in developing proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies for future research endeavors.
Foster and maintain collaborations with colleagues across the research group/School/College/University and the broader community, including academic and industrial partners.
Lead team/group meetings, seminars, workshops, and School research group activities to enhance the knowledge, outputs, and culture of the School/College.
Oversee the organization, supervision, mentoring, and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced project team members to ensure their effective development.
Handle administrative tasks related to the research group and School activities, including budgets and expenditures.
Contribute to teaching activities (e.g., demonstrating) and associated administrative tasks as assigned by the Head of School in consultation with the Principal Investigator.
Stay updated with current knowledge and recent advancements in the field/discipline.
Engage in personal, professional, and career development to enhance both specialist and transferable skills in line with career aspirations.
Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Director of Research Institute.
Contribute to enhancing the University's international profile in alignment with the University's Strategic Plan.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge and Qualifications Essential:- A1 Typically, a Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 12 (PhD) or equivalent professional qualifications and experience, with a background in a similar or related role(s).
- A2 A comprehensive and current understanding of issues and future directions within the broader subject area or specialization.
- A3 Knowledge of Computational Modelling, Formal Verification, Programming Languages, and Software Engineering, including tools like PRISM or STORM, and data-driven runtime models for digital twinning.
- C1 Research creativity and strong collaborative abilities across disciplines.
- C2 Excellent communication skills (oral and written), including public presentations and the ability to convey complex data/concepts clearly.
- C3 Strong interpersonal skills, including teamwork and a collegial approach.
- C4 Effective workload, time, project, budget, and people management skills.
- C5 Proficient IT and data analysis/interpretation skills.
- C6 Self-motivated with initiative and independent thought.
