Position Overview: A committed educational institution is seeking a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCO) to effectively implement strategies and provisions tailored to the unique requirements of students with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children and young individuals, adhering to institutional policies and the staff code of conduct.
  • Oversee the educational journey of a diverse range of SEN students aged 5-18, fostering an environment that encourages personalized learning and nurtures curiosity.
  • Facilitate access to the curriculum within a secure and productive learning atmosphere.
  • Support students facing challenges, guiding them towards successful futures, including employment and independent living.
  • Establish strong, impactful relationships with students to significantly influence their educational experiences.
  • Maintain a strategic perspective on the provision for students with SEN or disabilities throughout the institution, regularly assessing and enhancing the quality of support using established methodologies.
  • Manage all Annual Reviews and transition/destination reports effectively.
  • Contribute to the institution's self-evaluation, particularly regarding the provision for students with SEN or disabilities.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of the SEN Policy, aligning its objectives with the institution's development plan.
  • Stay informed about national and local initiatives that may influence institutional policies and practices.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a minimum of two years of teaching experience.
  • Possession of the National Award for SEN Coordination, or a commitment to complete it within three years of appointment, as mandated by the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Comprehensive understanding of 'quality first' teaching principles and effective intervention strategies.
