Cardiology Consultant with a Focus on Coronary Interventions

Isleworth, Greater London, United Kingdom Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

The role is for a full-time Consultant Physician specializing in Cardiology, particularly with a focus on Coronary Interventions. We welcome applications from individuals seeking full-time, part-time, or job-sharing opportunities. For those appointed in part-time or job-sharing roles, adjustments to job responsibilities will be discussed on an individual basis in collaboration with the trust and fellow consultants. This position has been created to enhance cardiology services in response to the growing demand for these essential services. The successful candidate will collaborate with existing consultants to advance cardiology services, with a particular emphasis on heart failure and imaging. A specialist interest in these areas is highly desirable, and an interest in device management can also be accommodated. This is a pivotal moment for the service, with plans for a new diagnostic center that will include cardiac MRI and an expanding innovation and research agenda. Newly appointed consultants will benefit from a mentoring program and will be expected to participate in a Cat B Medium frequency (2%) on-call rotation.

**Please note that the job description is pending approval from the Royal College**

Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a new team member to join our ambitious and dynamic Cardiology team at Chelsea and Westminster NHS. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to support our heart failure and imaging services.

About Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Our Trust operates from two primary hospitals and several clinics across London and the South-East. With nearly 7,000 dedicated staff members, we are committed to providing exceptional care to nearly one million patients.

Both hospitals offer comprehensive clinical services, including full maternity, emergency, and pediatric care, alongside a variety of community-based services, such as our award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.

We are recognized as one of the top-performing Trusts in the country and are consistently rated highly as a desirable workplace by our staff, who report high levels of engagement and motivation.

Our Trust has received a 'Good' rating from the Care Quality Commission across all five main domains: safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led, along with an 'Outstanding' rating for 'use of resources' from NHS Improvement.

We have made significant investments in our facilities, including a recent £30 million expansion of our adult and neonatal critical care units and plans for a £60 million Ambulatory Diagnostics Centre.

Job Duties

The Cardiology services are part of the newly established Medical Division. The Cardiology department operates within the outpatient sector, which encompasses all medical and surgical outpatient areas, as well as diagnostic and imaging services. The inpatient ward provides care for all cardiology patients, including those requiring non-invasive ventilation and step-down care from intensive treatment units.

Our catheterization lab, which opened in 2016, performs a variety of coronary procedures, including shock wave therapy, IFR/FFR/IVUS, and brady pacing, with approximately 1,500 procedures conducted annually.

The cardiology service is engaged in local and regional initiatives aimed at modernizing and enhancing outpatient services, some of which have garnered national recognition. Currently, the primary focus of the directorate is to redesign services to meet patient needs through Ambulatory care and digital pathways.
