Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Alarm Maintenance Technician to join our team at Kingston University Service Company Ltd. As a Fire Alarm Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our fire alarm systems across the university estate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct weekly statutory fire alarm tests across the university estate, record results, and maintain accurate records.
  • Develop and maintain good working knowledge of various alarm panels, establish and maintain contact with fire wardens, and ensure adherence to the weekly testing schedule.
  • Immediately report any faults detected in the expected operation of fire alarms to the KUSCO FM Helpdesk.
  • Monitor the state of fire precautions, identify potential hazards, and report issues to the KUSCO FM Helpdesk for clearance or resolution.
  • Participate in the annual review of fire risk assessments as required.
  • Assist in Fire Marshall training and contribute to fire safety initiatives and best practices.
Requirements
  • Current and valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to learn systems quickly and follow instructions.
  • Good timekeeping and proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Self-sufficiency, problem-solving skills, and ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and observation skills.
  • Recording and administration skills, including the ability to record work completed.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Practical skills in the operation of a broad range of fire alarm panels.
  • Working knowledge of fire safety precautions and electrical systems.
  • Nimbus training and operation.
  • Use of personal vehicle (mileage allowance paid for journeys between sites).
