Job Description

Job Title: Accountancy - Finance Manager

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Manager to join our team at St George's Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for leading the financial management of our Clinical division, ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of financial performance, and providing expert advice to business managers and clinicians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deputise for the Divisional Accountant on all aspects of the Division's financial reporting, including attendance at Divisional meetings as required.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth specialist knowledge of the Trust's accounting processes and procedures, including budgetary control and business planning.
  • Have an expert understanding of national accounting standards and an awareness of NHS Finance Initiatives.
  • Develop a close understanding of the Directorate and adopt a pro-active approach to problem solving and anticipating and evaluating financial risks.
  • Build strong working relations with business managers and clinicians in each SDU/Dept.
  • Operate an effective budgetary control system for all relevant directorate budgets, providing budget holders with accurate and reliable feedback on their financial performance to support the delivery of a balanced budget position at the end of each financial year.
  • Analyse financial performance each month, investigating the underlying causes and highlighting key issues for discussion and action.
  • Use variance analysis on the monthly financial statements to understand and explain the key variances.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely reporting of financial performance to appropriate levels of management.
