About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and accomplished Principal Scientist to join our team at Fera Science. As a key member of our Natural Capital department, you will play a leading role in driving scientific excellence and innovation in our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for scientific services, ensuring we remain at the forefront of innovation in the fields of Food, Agriculture, and Environment.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Business Units to identify new service opportunities and drive growth in our market share.
  • Focus scientific investment and resources to yield better returns on investment, generating intellectual property, commercializing ideas, and developing new talent.
  • Contribute to the development of our Science Strategy and Science KPIs, ensuring alignment with Fera Science's business needs and growth strategy.
  • Evaluate our key strengths and ability to deliver services in a dynamic market, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Map out a roadmap for science investment to drive Fera Science's growth over the next 12 months and beyond.
  • Raise the profile of our science capability through publications, presentations, and industry engagement.
  • Develop and implement succession plans for our science talent pool, ensuring alignment with Fera Science's future business needs.
Requirements
  • Relevant qualifications at Bachelor, Masters, or PhD level, plus significant industry experience.
  • An established reputation and national/international profile in Natural Capital or aligned disciplines, including demonstrable understanding of regulatory requirements.
  • A reputable track record of strategic science development and project management, working with colleagues across multiple disciplines to deliver innovative support to customers and stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex problems into comprehensible solutions.
  • Accountability and thought leadership, with the ability to take full ownership of your area of science and guide others.
  • Collaboration and leadership skills, with the ability to lead projects, delegate, and draw on skills and capabilities from across the business.
  • Innovation and commercial acumen, with the ability to drive change and deliver services that demonstrate a clearly differentiated offering compared to competitors.
