We are looking for a skilled and driven Director of Environmental Data Programs to spearhead the creation of a collaborative solution for managing environmental data at the farm level. The ideal candidate will engage with a variety of agricultural stakeholders to ensure effective and coherent data stewardship that serves both farmers and the wider agricultural sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Case Formulation: Oversee the development of a thorough business case for an Environmental Data Custodian.
  • Strategic and Technical Guidance: Offer expertise and direction on environmental data to internal teams and partner organizations.
  • Engagement with Stakeholders: Cultivate and maintain relationships with key industry players, ensuring the successful execution of the Data Custodian initiative.
  • System Design and Implementation: Collaborate with the Digital, Data, and Technology Director to identify customer requirements and design the Data Custodian system.
  • Representation: Act as the organization's representative at industry conferences, governmental discussions, and with agricultural unions, advocating for our environmental sustainability efforts.
  • Knowledge Dissemination: Enhance the understanding of internal teams regarding environmental and agricultural data.
  • Support for Communication: Partner with the communications team to effectively convey the organization's initiatives in environmental data management.

Essential Qualifications

  • Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of the practical aspects of managing environmental data within the agricultural sector.
  • Industry Connections: Established networks within UK, European, and international environmental data and carbon-footprinting sectors.
  • Credibility in Agriculture: Significant experience and respect within the UK agricultural community.
  • Data Management Expertise: Skilled in managing data-sharing agreements and developing data-exchange functionalities, including APIs.
  • Knowledge of Carbon Accounting: Comprehensive understanding of farm carbon accounting, greenhouse gas emissions, and sequestration data.
  • Project Leadership: Proven experience in guiding projects from conception to successful completion.

Deliverables

  • Develop the design and business strategy for the Data Custodian.
  • Forge partnerships to build consensus around the Data Custodian initiative.
  • Enhance the knowledge base of senior and project teams regarding environmental and agricultural data.
  • Contribute to initiatives like the Food Data Transparency Partnership focused on environmental data.
  • Provide regular updates and summaries of stakeholder interactions.

Location and Commitment

  • Location: Remote work with occasional travel for in-person meetings and events.
  • Commitment: Flexible options available for part-time (2 days a week) or full-time engagement.
