Role Overview:
We are in search of a driven and experienced Assistant Transport Manager ready to embrace a new challenge. In this capacity, you will oversee and manage the driver workforce across Essex.

This role presents an opportunity to enhance your industry knowledge and experience while collaborating closely with our operations team.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote and adhere to a safe working environment.
  • Assist in executing the daily operational plan for deliveries and collections, ensuring resource availability and keeping customers informed.
  • Manage an efficient driver roster, seeking ways to enhance area utilization and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor driver hours, vehicle cleanliness, and conduct vehicle checks.
  • Ensure all transport-related documentation is accurately completed, contributing to the company's transition towards a paperless environment.
  • Maintain responsibility for a safe working environment, including conducting safety-related investigations or audits.
  • Coordinate with Driver Training providers to ensure drivers receive up-to-date training and monitor behavioral improvements.
  • Assist in investigations related to non-compliance.
  • Engage with customers regarding specific regional requirements for driver inductions, delivery qualifications, and vehicle allocations.
  • Travel independently to cover multiple depots as needed.
  • Provide holiday cover for other Local Transport Managers.
  • Efficiently dispatch drivers with all necessary paperwork.
  • Prepare correspondence, minutes, notes, and other clerical support as directed by the program manager.
  • Utilize initiative, tact, and diplomacy in addressing queries, escalating issues to senior management in the absence of the transport manager.

Candidate Profile:
  • Proven administrative skills.
  • A collaborative team player with effective communication abilities at all levels.
  • Approachable and dependable demeanor.
  • Experience in a busy transport office is desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Familiarity with WTD, Drivers Hours, Tachograph, and transport legislation is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize workload while also working effectively as part of a team.
  • Proficient in IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and CRM systems.
