About the Position

This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to acquire essential skills and hands-on experience aimed at becoming a Maintenance Engineer in the Food Manufacturing sector. Collaborating closely with the maintenance engineering team, you will help ensure safe, compliant, and efficient engineering operations that enhance the site's asset base through a proactive approach while also addressing any breakdowns that may occur.

What We Offer:

  • Standard working hours of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from 8am to 6pm (transitioning to a 24/7 shift pattern in the latter years of the apprenticeship)
  • A comprehensive 4-year apprenticeship program, with the potential for a permanent position as a Maintenance Technician upon successful completion

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete the required Level 3 NVQ qualification while attending college on a weekly basis
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team to conduct planned and predictive maintenance of equipment, ensuring timely completion of repairs while prioritizing tasks based on site needs
  • Assist in managing spare parts inventory by keeping the critical spares list updated and ensuring stock levels meet operational requirements
  • Promote a safe working environment by executing all maintenance activities with minimal risk to personnel, products, and equipment
  • Engage in root cause analysis of breakdowns to identify corrective actions and prevent future occurrences
  • Support sustainability initiatives aimed at reducing environmental impact across the site
  • Participate in regular review sessions to foster continuous improvement
  • Engage in training and knowledge-sharing with other maintenance team members to broaden expertise

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of engineering principles
  • Strong willingness to learn and develop
  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs, including Maths, English Language, and Science (grade C/4 or above); an Engineering qualification (BTEC) or equivalent is desirable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
