Registered Nurse to Lead Nurse

Bristol, Bristol, United Kingdom Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you ready to explore your capabilities in a dynamic, innovative, and fast-paced environment? Do you wish to evolve from your current position to work alongside individuals in creating positive and impactful lives, irrespective of their backgrounds? This is an excellent opportunity to engage in offender healthcare and elevate your professional journey.

Become a valued member of our supportive team at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust as a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse within the South West Prison Healthcare initiative. This position includes a development program that allows for advancement to a Band 6 Lead Nurse role.

Our healthcare professionals play a crucial role in improving health and wellness among incarcerated individuals. We take pride in utilizing skills and strategies that foster hope for patients' future reintegration into society. Through a cohesive healthcare delivery model, we provide direct services in Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy, and Clinical Substance Misuse, ensuring effective and responsive care aimed at enhancing well-being and promoting favorable long-term outcomes.

Join our primary care team and benefit from the advantages of NHS AfC employment, including a pension scheme. In this progressive environment, we encourage career and personal development for all staff, enhancing their clinical and interpersonal competencies.

Key Responsibilities

As a registered nurse, your duties will encompass delivering exceptional primary care services and a range of specialized interventions for offenders. At Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, we operate a nurse-led integrated primary care service, adhering to a specialized practice-based clinical care model.

You will provide high-quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, demonstrating expert clinical skills and evidence-based nursing practices to incarcerated individuals.

A clear competency framework and timeline will be established with your line manager to ensure your personal and professional development aligns with the requirements for promotion to a Band 6 role. You will receive guidance and support from the Practice Development Nurse throughout your development journey.

Job Description

Developmental Role for Lead Nurse

We welcome applications from newly qualified registered nurses or those nearing qualification, offering a preceptorship position to initiate your career (Agenda for Change Band 5) with subsequent support to transition into the Lead Nurse role (Agenda for Change Band 6).

For experienced Band 5 nurses seeking a career in offender healthcare, we provide a structured progression pathway. Attached are job descriptions and personal specifications for both Band 5 and Band 6 roles, along with robust support for ongoing professional development and training.

Personal Development Plan

Expect a comprehensive plan to nurture competencies within an agreed framework under your line manager's guidance. You'll be empowered to take on increasing responsibilities over time.

Oxleas implements a Personal Development Review (PDR) and Plan (PDP) procedure annually with all employees. During the preceptorship phase, this structure will aid in formulating a Personal Development Plan within 12 weeks of your tenure commencement, with more frequent reviews than the standard PDR process, coordinated every 6 months with your supervisor and manager. Your Personal Development Plan will be crafted in collaboration with your manager and supervisor to identify areas for growth and the necessary activities and support to progress in the outlined competencies.

Criteria for Progression from Band 5 to Band 6

At Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, developmental roles designed for newly qualified and experienced nurses establish a framework supporting colleagues to advance beyond entry-level positions with a structured and fulfilling job plan. This framework aims to promote staff welfare, retain quality professionals, and afford consistent care within custodial settings.

Prior to applying for Band 6 progression, it is essential to possess relevant post-qualification experience. A competency framework, vetted with your clinical supervisor or line manager, will guide your journey towards achieving the necessary competencies for a Lead Nurse role in Offender Healthcare.
