Role Summary

The Finance Business Partner will provide accurate and timely financial information to support the Business Unit Manager in the effective running of the business unit. They will build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with operational and administrative staff, possessing excellent communication skills, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Objectives
  • Responsible for the finance and financial control of the entire business unit.
  • Advises and supports the Business Unit Manager and operational staff by providing and interpreting analytical information to enable effective decision making.
  • Provides support in ensuring that the rules, principles, and internal control requirements of the Group are met.
  • Ensures the business unit meets all its financial reporting obligations.
Responsibilities and AccountabilitiesGeneral Accounting
  • Makes sure transactions are accurately recorded in a timely manner and in accordance with the group and accounting rules.
  • Justifies the Balance Sheet figures by performing balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepares all month-end tasks such as accruals, prepayments, and closing of ledger.
Payroll & Tax
  • Supports the ADP Payroll and payroll processing duties, ensuring the appropriate working rules with respect to pay are applied and provides cover as necessary.
  • Supports all aspects of Pension, Sick Pay, Life Insurance, and Personal Injury payments as required.
  • If required, ensures CIS Tax is correctly applied by verifying sub-contractors with the HMRC, issuing payment Certificates, and filing the CIS returns in accordance with the deadlines.
Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Is actively involved with the annual budget preparation process.
  • Regularly analyzes KPIs such as invoice lag, debtors, variances, and productive hours.
  • Analyzes and explains overhead spend and variances to budget.
Project Accounting and Monitoring
  • Supports the Project Managers in understanding their projects.
  • Coaches/train Project Managers on the Project Accounting Systems so they can effectively monitor their projects.
  • In conjunction with their Business Unit General Manager, performs monthly project reviews to ensure project performance is properly and prudently assessed.
Cash Management
  • Evaluates the credit worthiness of new and existing clients.
  • Makes sure invoicing is always maximized.
  • Ensures effective and efficient credit control in the business unit.
  • Makes sure the setting up and payment of suppliers are performed in accordance with our control procedures and agreed payment terms.
Person SpecificationQualifications and Training
  • CIMA or other relevant accounting qualification.
Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience in Project Accounting is essential.
  • Ideally worked in an engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of group reporting is an advantage.
Communication
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills are imperative for this role.
  • Ability to translate financial analysis into clear strategic objectives.
  • Friendly and approachable manner, able to build and sustain relationships based on trust at all levels.
Quality and Accuracy
  • An eye for detail, focused on quality and accuracy, within a fast-paced environment, without compromising deadlines.
  • Ability to use sound judgment to ensure the appropriate messages are delivered.
Financial
  • Strong financial skills applied in a project costing context.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret variances.
  • Good knowledge of basic accounting functions such as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Timesheets.
  • Cash Management.
IT
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Knowledge of using an ERP would be beneficial (SAP or Navision preferable).
Organisation and Management
  • Able to plan and deliver projects within agreed timeframes.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience of managing people.
  • Ability to influence others.
  • A self-starter who can work on their own initiative but also be able to work effectively as part of a team.
