About This Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mobile Software Engineer to join our team at Axon. As a technical leader, you will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our mobile development team and driving the delivery of high-quality, mission-critical Android applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of our Android application, ensuring it meets the highest standards of performance, quality, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and solve complex technical challenges, driving innovation and improvement in our mobile development processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, helping them to grow and develop their skills.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, applying this knowledge to drive the development of our mobile applications.
  • Participate in code reviews and ensure that our coding standards are maintained, promoting a culture of excellence and quality.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and practices, identifying areas for improvement and implementing changes to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of industry experience shipping Android applications, with a strong understanding of Android development principles and best practices.
  • Experience with networking protocols such as Websockets, TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, Server-Sent-Events, and debugging tools like Wireshark or Charles.
  • Android experience with Retrofit, Coroutines, Ok Hilt, Jetpack, and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in Android development languages, such as Kotlin and Java, with experience of writing concurrent code that is free of data races.
  • Experience with popular architectural design patterns, such as MVVM, MVI, and CLEAN architecture.
  • Experience working with remote data via REST and JSON, including JSONRPC over Websockets.
  • Experience working with video streaming and IoT devices / connectivity over BLE or Wifi.
  • A track record of setting the technical and organizational direction for mobile development teams, with a solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects within a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on mission-critical software with stringent performance and reliability requirements.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for mobile applications.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for mobile applications.
  • Familiarity with cloud services and backend integration, such as AWS or Firebase.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of published apps.
  • Experience related to various SDKs, such as Bluetooth, WiFi, Networking, Camera (Photo/Video), Audio, File Management, and connecting to and interacting with third-party hardware.
  • Knowledge of WebRTC.
