The School Nursing Team provides healthcare services to children and adolescents with intricate health requirements attending specialized educational institutions. Responsibilities include conducting health evaluations, formulating and revising care plans, managing urgent situations, and delivering training to educational personnel. The team also prepares reports and participates in safeguarding conferences.

Detailed Job Description and Primary Responsibilities
General Duties
- Develops, promotes, and implements integrated working practices (both internally and externally) to enhance service delivery and outcomes for children, adolescents, and their families.
- Ensures that all team members adhere to SHC and ESTH policies, procedures, and guidelines, actively contributing to policy or service improvement proposals as needed.
- Collaborates closely with educational, health, and social care professionals.
- Appropriately delegates tasks to ensure coordinated and consistent care.
- Acts as a specialist practitioner and serves as a resource for other staff within the department and the broader organization.
- Exemplifies professional conduct and maintains high standards at all times.
- Understands issues related to information governance and data security.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Demonstrates confidence and competence in performing clinical skills, including medication administration and gastrostomy feeds, with experience in caring for children and adolescents with tracheostomies.
- Supports the lead clinician for the children's continence service.
- Conducts thorough assessments and develops care plans based on the identified health needs of individual children and adolescents.
- Reviews care plans at least annually or more frequently as necessary.
- Makes appropriate onward referrals when necessary.
- Participates in safeguarding supervision at least once per term and more frequently as required.
- Represents the school nursing team in educational settings.
- Attends annual educational reviews, child in need meetings, and other relevant meetings, providing essential information to educational and social services staff.
- Adheres to infection control policies and procedures to minimize the risk of infection.
Management Responsibilities and Professional Leadership
- Ensures team compliance with service delivery according to the commissioned service specifications.
- Assists the Team Leader and senior children's services managers in monitoring the staffing budget.
- Ensures staff fulfill their obligations to collect and record data in electronic records promptly.
- Addresses any complaints in accordance with SHC and ESTH policy.
- Collaborates with the risk management department to support practitioners in identifying and managing risks associated with service delivery.
- Ensures all staff comply with incident reporting policies and that all reported incidents are thoroughly investigated.
- Promotes effective communication systems.
- Observes and complies with Trust policies and procedures for health and safety, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized work environment.

Education, Training, and Personal Development
- Develops and implements local orientation and induction programs for new team members.

- Works with the Team Leader and senior children's services managers to ensure staff competence in clinical skills associated with their roles.
- Encourages reflective practice among staff to promote effective problem-solving strategies.
- Completes verification for nursing staff undergoing revalidation in accordance with NMC guidelines.
- Ensures student nurses on clinical placements are assigned trained mentors to support their development.
Working Relationships/Communication
