Surrey, United Kingdom VIA Full time

Location: Surrey
Commitment: 2 days per week (flexible schedule)

About VIA in Surrey

The VIA Surrey initiative focuses on fostering and maintaining ongoing relationships with adults facing significant challenges related to alcohol consumption within the community. Our services are designed to be flexible and responsive, ensuring that individuals in need can readily access the support they require. A fundamental aspect of our approach is the absence of fixed time constraints or eligibility thresholds that could hinder engagement.

Role Overview

As a Volunteer Recovery Practitioner, your role will involve assisting in the provision of various interventions tailored for service users. Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing guidance on alcohol awareness and strategies for harm reduction.
  • Supporting professionals in conducting assessments and follow-up evaluations of service users. (Note: You will not be responsible for initial assessments.)
  • Collaborating with practitioners to manage a caseload of service users, which entails meeting them in their homes alongside a recovery practitioner.
  • Helping service users connect with additional resources, including facilitating referrals to external agencies.

Moreover, you will be expected to engage in team meetings as appropriate and undertake other tasks as necessary to meet the service's needs.

Required Skills

This position is ideal for individuals seeking to enhance their experience in the field of substance use and recovery. While prior knowledge of the sector is beneficial, we are particularly interested in candidates who possess a genuine passion for our mission. A positive mindset and eagerness to learn are crucial, as is a compassionate and non-judgmental attitude towards individuals facing challenges with substance use.

What VIA Offers

Upon starting your volunteer journey, you will be assigned a volunteer supervisor who will serve as your primary contact within the service. They will provide continuous support and guidance throughout your time with VIA. Additionally, a dedicated volunteer services team will be available to assist you during your placement.

Expect the following benefits:

  • A comprehensive induction to your role and ongoing local training opportunities.
  • Access to central training resources for staff.
  • Regular supervision sessions.
  • Reimbursement for reasonable travel and meal expenses.
