Job Description

Job Title: Head of SEND Travel Assistance

Job Summary:

The Head of SEND Travel Assistance is a pivotal role within the Children's Department, responsible for strategically and operationally managing the commissioning, brokering, and delivery of all aspects of travel assistance for eligible residents with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This role oversees a significant budget exceeding £5 million, ensuring robust financial management and adherence to budgetary constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the current SEND Travel budget and expenditure patterns, identifying areas for potential savings and efficiencies.
  • Evaluate existing travel assistance arrangements and initiate discussions with service providers to explore alternative options where appropriate.
  • Implement a monitoring framework to track the performance of transport services against agreed service levels and standards.
  • Establish clear communication channels with the Transport Monitoring & Finance Officers and Transport Support Officer to ensure alignment with departmental objectives and priorities.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in managing travel assistance services for individuals with SEND.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK without work permit or visa restrictions.
