Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Catering Operative. As a key member of our catering team, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and ensuring the smooth operation of our food service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals to patients, staff, and visitors in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Assist with food preparation, including cooking, cleaning, and sanitizing equipment and utensils.
  • Support patient meal services by loading bulk trolleys or ward-level service of meals.
  • Undertake basic cooking tasks, such as cooking buffets and breakfast items, under the guidance of the Facilities Supervisor - Catering.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and dining areas, adhering to food hygiene standards and trust policies.
  • Assist with deliveries, stock control, and cleanliness of stock areas, raising shortfalls to the Facilities Supervisor - Catering.
  • Check, clean, and refill vending machines and 24-hour catering stores, completing HACCP documentation and sales controls for audit purposes.
  • Assist customers with problems associated with vending machines and resolve issues on their behalf.
  • Answer and resolve telephone queries and respond to requests from departments accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with setting up meeting rooms and preparing food for special functions, including the preparation of beverages and buffet items.
  • Wash up ward-level patient equipment when required.
  • Dispose of waste food and refuse in a hygienic manner, adhering to the Trust Waste Management Policy.
  • Prepare the servery area and restaurant prior to service, ensuring all areas and display counters are attractively and properly presented.
  • Operate the cash register and accept and process payments for meals, cashing up under the direction of the Facilities Supervisor - Catering.
  • Complete all relevant control documents, including daily HACCP records.
  • Keep the front-of-house restaurant clean and tidy throughout the shift, clearing and cleaning tables, and washing up promptly.
Requirements
  • Good GCSEs or basic education.
  • Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • NVQ Level 2 Customer Service or willingness to work towards.
  • Relevant catering experience.
