Position Overview

We are looking for a committed legal expert to become part of our supportive Community Care and Court of Protection division. Reporting directly to the Senior Associate, you will handle a varied caseload of clients who pay privately, while also mentoring junior colleagues and aiding in the growth of our specialized legal practice. As a founding member of the Professional Deputy Forum and a recognized authority in legal directories, our team provides comprehensive and expert guidance in Community Care/Public Law, Court of Protection Health and Welfare, and Special Educational Needs.

This position offers a clear trajectory for career advancement, including avenues for business development, within a highly esteemed and nurturing team environment.

Clientele

Our services cater to a diverse array of clients, including the Court of Protection team at Boyes Turner (subject to the Deputy's authority under Re ACC) and Professional Deputies across the country.

Additionally, we assist various private clients, such as parents, young individuals with capacity, families, lay attorneys, lay deputies, professional trustees, case managers, litigators, and charitable organizations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing a diverse range of Community Care and Court of Protection cases under the guidance of senior fee earners. Depending on your legal background, there may be opportunities to engage with Special Educational Needs cases.
  • Supporting marketing initiatives and contributing to business development efforts.
  • Assisting senior fee earners with Community Care/Public Law and Court of Protection matters related to Re ACC.
  • Managing new inquiries from lay clients and Professional Deputies, including responding to requests for Re ACC quotations.
  • Drafting various complex legal documents, including advisory letters, grounds for appeal, formal complaints, instructions for experts and counsel, court forms, applications, position statements, and witness statements.
  • Engaging in advocacy during needs assessments, dispute resolution meetings, statutory appeals, and court or tribunal hearings.
  • Coordinating with clients, experts, public entities, counsel, and the Court.
  • Supervising the preparation of documentation by junior fee earners and support personnel.
  • Providing training and oversight to junior fee earners and support staff as necessary.
  • Ensuring that all work is executed to a high standard to uphold the firm's reputation.
  • Assisting in the management of fee estimates, invoicing, and accounting processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in Community Care/Public Law and Court of Protection Health & Welfare.
  • Capability to independently manage a mixed caseload of privately paying clients under senior supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Strong client care and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficient IT skills, including a solid understanding of Microsoft Office (especially Excel).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Court of Protection Property & Affairs.
  • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs law.
  • Advocacy experience (e.g., NHS Continuing Healthcare appeals, round-table/ADR meetings).
  • Experience in training and supervising junior fee earners and support staff.
