Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Behavioural Specialist to join our Enhanced Social Care Support Team. As a Behavioural Specialist, you will play a crucial role in providing professional, specialist knowledge and support to individuals with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, as well as those who support them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Completing Functional Behaviour Assessments to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviour
  • Developing Positive Behaviour Support plans that are functional-based and tailored to the individual's needs
  • Completing 'service specification' reports to define the support and environmental needs of individuals
  • Providing specialist support to individuals with Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, as well as those who support them, across multiple environments and varying support networks
  • Attending team clinical supervision and sharing knowledge through team meetings and hybrid resources
  • Effectively managing complex cases and providing behavioural guidance, support, and specialist advice to social care staff, other professionals, and providers
  • Completing written reports that reflect the needs of an individual using PBS principles to evidence person-centred recommendations that promote quality of life outcomes
  • Facilitating individual choice and empowerment by undertaking early intervention and prevention, promoting independence as far as possible, and applying behavioural knowledge and skills for individuals who have complex behaviours that challenge the provision of other services
  • Working collaboratively with stakeholders, partners, and voluntary agencies to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to all aspects of service delivery
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines on safe and best working practices to ensure risks are considered and appropriately acted upon
  • Supporting providers in the delivery of person-centred and bespoke support, which may include delivering training
  • Ensuring consistency and effectiveness in the implementation of behavioural support plans as agreed by the multidisciplinary network with an emphasis on measurable outcomes
  • Working collaboratively with others to identify and meet people's needs and to jointly develop services
  • Providing high-quality data and recording to ensure the service meets all statutory recording requirements

Requirements

  • A good level of knowledge and experience in the field of Learning Disabilities and/or Autism, including being educated to degree level in Intellectual and Development Disabilities or a suitable alternative subject
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to develop a rapport and engage with diverse groups of individuals
  • Developing strong relationships with partners, other agencies, and the local community to achieve joint objectives and offer a supportive framework for individuals
  • Clear decision-making skills
  • An approach to behavioural support that focuses on increasing the quality of life of the individuals we support, reduces restrictive practices, and increases skills and independence
  • Experience within a social care setting with evidence of challenging social and family situations
  • Evidence of working with complex caseloads that are underpinned by evidence-based practice
  • Good organisation skills, ensuring that you are able to be flexible in role delivery and self-manage calendar and appointments
