Peterborough, Peterborough, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you seeking to enhance your skills as an expert speech and language therapist?

We are excited to present a unique opportunity for a Band 7 clinician to become a part of our dedicated team at The Hollies, a facility focused on delivering care for adults with learning disabilities. Our unit is currently transitioning to a more specialized setup, which includes a reduction in bed capacity to ensure personalized care. Located conveniently, we offer free on-site parking and flexible working arrangements.

As a member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) at The Hollies, you will play a vital role in ensuring that each patient's experience is optimized. Your clinical responsibilities will encompass advanced communication strategies and dysphagia management, collaborating closely with patients and their families.

In your capacity as the clinical lead, you will provide guidance on best practices and have the chance to influence the direction of speech and language therapy (SLT) services. You will also benefit from peer clinical supervision from fellow speech and language therapists specializing in learning disabilities across the region.

If you are eager to make a significant impact on patient care, we encourage you to consider this opportunity. Informal discussions about the role are welcomed.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will independently assess and manage a complex caseload of adults with learning disabilities, providing specialized and intricate speech and language therapy interventions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing all referrals concerning communication and/or swallowing difficulties (Dysphagia) within the Adult Learning Disability Inpatient Services.
  • Providing professional leadership to Speech and Language Therapy staff, including recruitment, clinical supervision, and collaboration with management on professional development.
  • Delivering highly specialized Speech and Language Therapy contributions to the planning, development, and evaluation of interventions for learning disabilities, while overseeing specific projects as assigned by management.
  • Acting as an autonomous practitioner responsible for a complex caseload of adults with learning disabilities, including those with challenging behaviors and mental health needs.
  • Planning and implementing appropriate clinical interventions based on comprehensive evaluations and assessments of individual needs.
  • Leading multidisciplinary and multi-agency collaborations within The Hollies and with key stakeholders.
