Position Overview:
Major Recruitment Oldbury is seeking a dedicated Family Support Officer to join our client in Birmingham. This role is initially offered as a temporary contract with the potential for permanent placement.
Role Purpose:
The primary objective of this position is to provide a responsive and customer-centric tenancy support service for temporary accommodation (TA) residents. This service aims to assist individuals in maintaining their tenancy within the homeless centre and facilitate their transition to secure housing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional tenancy support services tailored to the evolving needs of residents and comply with relevant legislation.
- Administer licence agreements, conduct resident orientations, and lead group meetings for residents.
- Assist residents in establishing support networks and participating in local community initiatives.
- Ensure residents receive timely access to support as outlined in their Personal Housing and TA Move On plans.
- Facilitate referrals to support organizations and empower residents to manage their finances effectively.
- Process housing benefit and DHP claims to mitigate the risk of rent arrears.
- Collaborate with TA Finance Officers to address non-payment of rent and service charges.
- Maintain accurate records of income received and ensure compliance with established procedures.
- Attend court proceedings related to evictions as necessary.
- Assist in preparing TA suitability review documentation and case files for legal matters.
- Perform administrative and reception duties as required.
- Ensure that resident records are consistently updated and accurate.
- Monitor resident and visitor access to the building, enforcing signing in and out protocols.
- Report any safeguarding issues and health & safety violations to the appropriate authorities.
- Conduct routine fire drills and health & safety inspections as part of risk management.
Candidate Requirements:
- Possession of a clear Enhanced DBS check.
- Proficient in English and Mathematics.
- Experience in customer service, preferably within a housing context.
- Background in frontline service roles, assisting customers with complex needs.
- Proven experience in delivering tenancy support services.
- Familiarity with working in a multi-disciplinary environment with strict deadlines.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
- Experience collaborating with communities, partners, and stakeholders.
- Strong administrative skills, including maintaining accurate records and correspondence.
- Knowledge of landlord and tenant laws and health & safety regulations.
- Confidence in communicating effectively in English as required by immigration regulations.
- Strong organizational skills to manage workload in a dynamic environment.
- Flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts as needed.
