Network Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure Team at the University of Sussex. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering a modern network that will underpin transformative learning experiences and enable world-leading research.
The successful candidate will have extensive expertise in LAN and WAN, IP address management, firewalls, and security access control systems. You will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and expertise in delivering the components of a new network, including active participation in the support of WAN, LAN, routing, Wi-Fi, firewall, and network security, IPAM, network access control.
You will collaborate with other teams to ensure IT systems and solutions being adopted meet the evolving needs of the University and its students and researchers. To excel in this role, you should possess knowledge of enterprise firewall management, network access control systems, Wi-Fi management systems, and IP address management experience using Infoblox solutions or equivalent.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Juniper networks
- Managing and configuring Layer 2 and Layer 3 network switches
- Network services such as DNS and DHCP
- IP Address Management experience using Infoblox solutions or equivalent
- Network cabling technologies including both structured cabling and fibre optic network cables
Qualifications / Skills & Experience:
- 3 years of relevant network experience within information security/technology focused on networking
- Cisco switching & wireless, Cisco Security
- Formal certification including Juniper, Cisco CCNP or multiple CCNA across Network technologies/areas
- Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships to understand client requirements
- Ability to deliver against deadlines and agreed SLA targets
- Ability to take ownership of an issue or task and see it through to completion
- Previous troubleshooting and support experience
