We are looking for a Senior Psychiatric Consultant to become a vital part of our Community Mental Health team. This position has become available due to the transition of the previous consultant to a new role.
Key ResponsibilitiesIn this role, you will provide direct care to clients, tailoring interventions to meet individual needs, particularly for those who may be challenging to engage. Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting ongoing assessments, diagnoses, and treatment of both mental and physical health issues.
- Offering medical guidance and leadership within the Community Mental Health Team, with a focus on patients from designated surgeries.
- Collaborating with Multi-Disciplinary Teams, attending regular meetings to ensure cohesive care.
- Managing outpatient assessments and treatments in clinic settings.
- Facilitating Care Programme Approach (CPA) meetings for outpatients.
- Visiting patients in their homes when clinically necessary.
- Coordinating with other service areas, GPs, and external organizations as needed.
- Ensuring smooth transitions for clients between intensive and inpatient services.
- Assuming the Responsible Clinician role for patients under Community Treatment Orders.

Qualifications and ExperienceTo be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Relevant higher degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or additional clinical qualifications.
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
- Full registration with the GMC and a license to practice.
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT.
- Approved clinician status or the ability to achieve it within three months of appointment.
- Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months of appointment.
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Leadership capabilities and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize clinical responsibilities.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and colleagues.
Applicants should have the ability to:
- Assess and treat psychiatric conditions in adults and manage crisis situations.
Understanding of the management skills necessary for success as a Consultant is essential.
Commitment to EducationExperience in teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is desirable, along with an understanding of educational principles.
Research and Quality ImprovementInvolvement in research projects and audits is an advantage.
Management TrainingEvidence of training in management or leadership skills is required.
ComplianceThis position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, necessitating a Disclosure submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
