About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Aquaculture & Fisheries Manager to join our Ethics & Sustainability team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in accelerating and integrating sustainability plans within the Waitrose business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of strategic plans for responsible sourcing of fish and seafood, ensuring alignment with commercial results and positive ethics and sustainability outcomes.
  • Collaborate with fish category teams to ensure a secure supply of fish and seafood that meets market-leading standards and differentiates the brand.
  • Engage suppliers on continuous improvement and research/innovation, focusing on topics such as fish welfare, bycatch, sustainable feed, and human rights.
  • Oversee programs to measure farm performance, ensuring alignment with other supply chains and robust reporting against internal targets and external commitments.
  • Take a leadership role in developing and delivering industry-wide collaborative initiatives, including Fishery Improvement Projects.
  • Represent the business publicly as the primary spokesperson on responsible sourcing of fish and seafood.
Requirements
  • Experience in leading successful aquaculture & fisheries sourcing programs.
  • Robust knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, industry standards, and assurance schemes.
  • In-depth understanding of fisheries science, including fish stock assessment and management, and aquaculture, likely to degree level (or equivalent).
  • Direct experience of aquaculture and fisheries management and/or fishery improvement projects.
  • Ability to integrate ethics & sustainability considerations with commercial ones.
  • Strong interest in and passion for the wider ethics & sustainability agenda.
  • IT and data management skills.
