Position Overview
This role is offered on a full-time basis, although applications for part-time positions will also be welcomed.
The primary location for this position will be at our Eye Centre, with services extended to additional hospital sites. Staff typically operate across multiple locations, and any necessary travel between sites during working hours will be accommodated in the job plan. The department is equipped with secretarial support and office facilities within the Eye Centre, and is backed by a team of Optometrists, Orthoptists, Specialist Nurses, and Eye Clinic Liaison Officers.
Key Responsibilities
The main responsibilities associated with this position include:
- Facilitating the delivery of General Ophthalmology services, with a focus on Medical Retina and Uveitis.
- Acting as the research lead for the department.
- Conducting outpatient clinics and performing day case surgeries.
- Managing a patient load of approximately 12 individuals in face-to-face consultations and 24 in virtual clinics. In surgical settings, the expectation is to handle around 7 cataract cases.
- Providing urgent and emergency care, including on-call duties; schedules will adhere to working time regulations and ensure safe working practices.
- Sharing on-call responsibilities with colleagues on a rotational basis, currently assessed as part of the overall workload.
- Engaging in Core Supporting Professional Activities, with objectives tailored to align with the Trust Framework and national Terms and Conditions of Service, along with additional responsibilities for roles such as service lead.
- Potentially taking on formal teaching roles or departmental leadership positions, such as the research lead.
